Judgment Day For MMCET Lecturer

Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma, of the Ross Road Magistrate Court No. 1, come Monday 23rd November, 2020, will deliver a ruling on the ongoing embezzlement matter involving one Bobson Frederick Amara, former acting Principal at Hammond International Preparatory School at Shell Kissy Old Road in Freetown.

Bobson Frederick Amara is currently a lecturer at the Milton Margai College of Technology (MMCET). He was charged with offences of embezzlement, obtaining money by false pretences and other related offences.

This happened when the police prosecutor, Isata Bangura, disclosed to the bench that she had closed the matter, leaving the defense to open their case. But, rather unfortunate, both the defense counsels, Thomas Beah and I.S.Y. Kamara, were absent in court.

The accused has been arraigned before the court for almost a year now. This is as a result of several offences levied against him by the proprietress, Francis Bernadette Amara Cummings, and twenty one (21) parents, who allegedly paid forty two million Leones (Le42, 000,000) to the accused as a school fees for their children.

According to the evidence, led during the trial, the fees in question never reflected into the school`s account as mandated. Several witnesses, both parents, investigating officer, including the proprietress, have testified in respect of the matter.

According to the charge sheet, Bobson Frederick Amara, on the diverse dates between 1st September, 2019 and 21st January, 2020, embezzled and obtained forty two million Leones (Le 42,000,000) from twenty one parents as a school fees for their children knowing same to be false.

The accused is still on bail and the matter was adjourned to 23rd November, 2020.
