Kamabai Murder… First Prosecution Witness Testifies

Four accused persons who identified themselves as Ishmael Koroma, Issa Alhaji  Mansaray, Ernest Conteh and Lamin Tarawalie yesterday made their second appearance before Magistrate Hannah Bonnie of court No.1 as they were alleged of conspiring together to murder one Kadiatu Yalie Kargbo at Kamabai village, northern province.

Led in evidence by ASP Ibrahim Mansaray, the witness, Chernor Sawaneh recognized the accused and also said that the deceased was her aunty and that he was staying with her. He also recalled Sunday, 8th March, 2020.

He said on that day at 8pm, the first accused who is a commercial motorbike rider went and collected the deceased to carry her to Kamakwie junction.

He said the first accused usually transported the deceased whenever she wanted to purchase fish for sale.

He added that after the first accused, Ishmael Koroma had carried the deceased to purchase fish, he did not see her or two days. He furthered that he then went to the house of the first accused and reported the matter to his mother and the town Chief and that the first accused told him that he left the deceased at the Kamabie Park.

The witness continued that he was advised by the chief to report the matter at the Kamabai Police Station which he said, he did and they that the police obtained statement from him and that the first accused was later arrested.

He said the first accused during investigation mentioned the second, third and fourth accused persons that they were part of the alleged murder of the deceased.

He added that he was later called by the police to identify the remains along Mabebeh Road and that there he said, he recognized his aunty by the cloth she had on that night, adding that the remains were taken  buried  at the back of the deceased’s house.

He said later the matter was transferred to the Makeni Police Station and there he said he made another statement.

The accused were arraigned on two counts of conspiracy to murder and murder, contrary to law.

The particulars of offense indicate that the accused on 8th of March 2020 at Kamabai town conspired together with other persons unknown to murder Kadiatu Yalie Kargbo.

The first accused was not represented in court and was advised by the Magistrate to secure a lawyer as the matter before the court was a serious one.

The rest of the accused were represented by James Forna Sesay Esq.

The accused were remanded and the matter comes up on the 10th August, 2020.
