Koidu Limited, one of the leading mining companies in Kono District, has supported the Koidu New Sembehun City Council by providing fuel to the Free Quality Education school buses allocated to the Koidu New Sembehun City Council.
The company says it is providing one thousand liters per month to the three buses provided to the council by government with a view to complement the Council in supporting Government’s Free Quality Education program.
Speaking on behalf of the company, Philip Sorboeh, Community Development Manager, Koidu Limited, underscored the importance of the move by Koidu Limited to support the President’s flagship education project.
Koidu Limited is always and will ever be committed to the needs of its operational communities.
He assured all that the one thousand liters fuel supply to the three buses per month will be an ongoing process, adding that the company is also supporting the council with fuel for its other vehicles, especially for council trucks taking part in the Saturday Cleaning Exercise.
He recalled that over the past years Koidu Limited has supported one of the first educational establishments in the district, the Koidu Girls Secondary School, by refurbishing a six (6) classroom building and the Boarding Home.
This, they indicated, is part of their drive to support the education of the girl child in Kono.
The Community Manager pointed out that they have also responded to requests from various stakeholders for the construction and support to the Walihun Health center, the Blind School in Kono and the construction of extra staff accommodation for the Ministry of Health, among others.
Deputy Chief Administrator, Mark L.K. Macavoray of Koidu New Sembehun City Council, thanked the company for such a laudable support.
The CA revealed that since the buses were allocated to Koidu City Council, they have been experiencing lots of challenges with regards effectively fuelling them and also pay the salaries of six drivers.
He added that monies generated from the buses are not enough to settle those issues.
He said the intervention of Koidu Limited in the area of providing fuel has solved one of the issues and they will now be preoccupied with the payment of salaries for the drivers.
He added that Koidu Limited has always been responsive to the needs of their immediate communities.
He expressed his thanks and appreciation to the company.
Abubakarr Barwoh, Coordinator, Free Quality Education in Kono District, said the one thousand liters fuel per month will go a long way, adding that the offer means a lot for school going children in that part of the country.
He assured the company that they will monitor the offer so that it will be used for its intended purpose.
