LAB Blames Prosecution Team

Randy S. Bangura, a lawyer from the Legal Aid Board Sierra Leone, on Friday 18th September, 2020, has blamed the Police Prosecution team at the Ross Road Magistrate Court No. 1, which is headed by Assistant Superintendent of Police ASP, Osman Mahmoud Bangura, for causing untold suffering to the accused in both the Male and Female Correctional Centres, after several matters were adjourned due to lack of police prosecution witnesses.

Lawyer Bangura made this revelation on Friday 18th September, 2020 at the Ross Road Magistrate Court No. 1, which is presided over by Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma. He further stated that the absence of prosecution witnesses, in court, has caused several suffering for the accused and that it is necessary for the police prosecutors to make a roll call, because most of the people who were occupying the courtroom, some were not witnesses but rather inquisitives “kogosa.”

He added that if the prosecution team makes a roll call, they would exactly know those who have matters in court and those who do not, who are normally commonly called “lef na road den,” but still they occupy and congest the courtroom during proceedings.

In response, the head of the prosecution team, at Ross Road Magistrate Court No. 1, Assistant Superintendent of Police ASP, Osman Mahmoud Bangura, said they could not tell who are witnesses or not.
