LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Dear Editor,
Strategic Communications Failure
The saying that too many cooks spoil the broth has been proven true by the failure of a bunch of journalists at the Ministry in preventing an exodus of sick patients at the Connaught Hospital. It was expected that the bloated number of journalists at the Ministry of Health would result in more efficient service but the reverse has been the case. They have been either falling over one another or just idle.
When there was only one Public Relations Officer at the ministry during the Ebola epidemic there was no exodus. It is now that there is a company of journalists that we have this unfortunate situation. Patients must have been listening to conflicting messages and replying on rumours.
With hindsight they should have installed radio sets in each ward to be tuned to the SLBC by the nurses at National News Bulletin times. Had those fleeing patients known that on no occasion would COVID-19 positive patients be mingled with patients free of the disease. It would appear that they were not even sensitized about spacing outside the hospitals. Equipped with such knowledge they would not have fled.
Therefore why does the New Direction government keep on wasting tax payers’ money in employing persons who have nothing to do but to confuse the public? The New Direction jobs for the boys will result in negative effects at the end of the day. Lonta.
