Magistrate Displeases Head Of Prosecution

By Musa Paul Feika

ASP Osman M. Bangura, head of the prosecution team at the Ross Road Magistrate Court No. 1, was displeased during yesterday`s proceedings when the presiding Magistrate, Wilbri Hamida Moira John, acquitted and discharged two accused, namely Samuel Madia and Tamba Madia.

The two accused were charged with serious offences,   which include wounding with intent, wounding and assaulting occasioning actual bodily harm, which are all contrary to the Offences against the Person Act of 1861.

According to the police, Samuel Madia and Tamba Madia, on Monday 5th April, 2021, at Wellington in Freetown, wounded and assaulted Aiah Ansumana, in a manner thereby causing him grievous bodily harm.

Magistrate John discharged the matter because Aiah Ansumana, who is the complainant, told the bench that he did not want to continue with it for reasons best known to him.

When Madam John cautioned and discharged both accused, the police prosecutor, ASP Osman M. Bangura, murmured and grumbled in his throat.

ASP Bangura is not only the head of the prosecution team at the Ross Road Magistrate Court No.1, but he is also a very seasoned prosecutor and hardly loses matters. For this reason, most of the barristers are always afraid of him whenever he was prosecuting a matter.

Mr. Bangura, a vibrant prosecutor, and the barristers are always at each other`s necks.  As a result, most lawyers have been praying for his retirement.  People like ASP Bangura and a member of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), deserve praise and respect for his good job.
