Man Docked For Attempted Suicide

Sahr Alpha has made his second appearance before Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma at the Ross Road Magistrate Court No. 1 for the offence of attempted Suicide, contrary to the Laws of Sierra Leone.
Police prosecution witness, Mamusu Kamara, who also doubles as the accused`s wife in her testimony, informed the court that she recognized the accused, her husband, and that she could recall 29th September 2019.
She continued that on that fateful day, disagreement ensued between the accused and herself and told the court that she later begged the accused to stop quarreling, noting that she did not want them to disturb the peace of other neighbors.
The witness added that when she advised the accused, he became annoyed with her and later resulted into a serious fight between her and the accused.
The witness furthered that fortunately, her father came to the scene of the crime while the fighting was still ongoing between them and added that her father was able to stop the fighting and strongly advised the accused to stop beating her which but he became more adamant.
Later on the Chief in the community promised to settle the matter amicably.
The witness informed the court that after few seconds, she got information that the accused in question has hanged himself in his bedroom and, according to the witness, her father came to confirm the alleged incident.
She ended her evidence stating that the matter was reported to the Approved School Police Post, east of Freetown and the accused was arrested and taken to the police station.
Defense Counsel, M.P George defending the accused, made an application on behalf of his client citing section 79 (2) and (3) of the Criminal Procedure Act No. 32 of 1965.
Bail was granted by the presiding Magistrate, Alhaji Suliaman Koroma for fifty million Leones (Le 50,000,000), with two sureties in like sum and that the sureties must be resident in Freetown, and that bail must be approved by the Acting Master and Registrar.
The matter was adjourned to 19th November, 2019.
