Mines Closure Increase hardship in Tonkolili -Resident Blasts

Residents of Teneh Chiefdom in Tonkolili District have expressed their dismay over the closure of the various Mining Companies in their district.

This according to them has dramatically increased hardship for thousands of residents in communities.

We have not been able to meet the delivery of basic social services to our families as a result of this disclosure,they recounted.

Councilor Yusifu S. Bangura of Ward 172, Constituency 051 directly accused the Minister of Youths Affairs, Mohamed Orman Bangura and Paramount Chief of Teneh Chiefdom, PC Bai Kafarie of having machinated the closure of various Gold mining companies in the communities.

These were sources of sustainable livelihoods for us in our communities.

He added that dozens of Chinese Companies have been forcefully closed to give way for Ghanaian nationals who are mostly not in conformity with their various Corporate Social Responsibility Projects to the Communities.

Councilor Emmanuel B. Bangura of Ward 173 said youth in Teneh Chiefdom have experienced serious challenges in their agricultural activities as most of the areas they use for farming have been given to Ghanaian gold miners.

In Samaia Bendugu, residents have also accused their Member of Parliament, Musa Bendugu for undertaking indiscriminate gold mining in their land which has destroy farming land and activities in the communities.
