Misguided Loyalty!

Must read

By Felix Khonte

Political pundits and commentators are actively at work studying and documenting the political drama that has engulfed the main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) political party. From hindsight, you might be tempted to ask some true, but rhetorical questions about what has actually gone wrong within the echelons of the party. But you could never get a convincing answer as fingers are being pointed at suspicious bargains being entered into by certain members of the senior executive.

“This ulterior mission of ingratitude has made them to be tongue tied in the eclipse of their guiltiness”.

The climax of their ‘conspiracy’ became a talking point when their orators in social media forums started highlighting the nefarious and dubious activities that these people have been engaged in. But before these allegations from their bloggers were revealed, there was a statement made on social media by the first Lady that she will expose certain individuals that have been visiting their home deep at night. And that they have received some inducements from her husband (president Bio) on matters related or connected to the June 24th, 2023, elections. It was after these revelations by the first lady that the ‘conspirators’ became robust and active in consolidating their anti-party activities.

The tsunami of disturbances reverberated within the corridors of the party after the infamous elections of last year. The party executive and hierarchy became divided and they could not speak in one accord even on pertinent issues affecting the party. The battle for ‘electoral justice’ was left squarely at the hands of the presidential flagbearer, Dr Samura Kamara.

Even before the months leading up to the campaigns, you could sense the lackadaisical and noncommittal attitude of most of the senior party functionaries. The elections were conducted with the ‘pseudo connivance’ of these very elements within the All Peoples Congress executive members on one hand, and the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone on the other hand.

Caught up in the political drama of the century, the All Peoples Congress has been reduced to the laughing stock of the community of civilised political institutions across the globe. As if driven by their ‘loathe consciences’ to divert the attention of the greater majority of the party membership, they have decided to embark on an abortive agenda: “Registration and Identification of Party Membership”.

But this decision has met the strongest resistance from the grassroots members of the party as they constitute the greater majority. Their slogan is: “We will never register until our votes are counted!”

This message has sent a strong signal to the leadership of the party that, if urgent measures are not put in place to address these precarious and looming troubles, fragmentations, and misunderstandings, ‘disaster awaits the party’!

It is about time that the elders of the party come together and try to build a trajectory of contentious building. A divided mind set of people from the same organisation will never succeed in any enterprise they intend to undertake. “The spirit of, if it is not me, then everyone must forfeit” was not the ideology of the Founding Fathers of the party. There is one popular parable that says: “When brothers fight for something that is their own, it is the stranger that is bound to get the loot”.

And this is exactly what is happening in the corridors of the All Peoples Congress. They are claiming that they scored 57.15 per cent out of the 70 per cent polling centres that were collated with their RR forms that gave them the victory.

“Sadly enough, some senior party officials are deciding to let go of that victory in the optimum of conspiratorial sell out!”

“UNBELIEVABLE WONDERS OF THE CENTURY!”

“There are very few people, and they are the exceptions, who are able to think and feel beyond the present moment”. These wise words are quoted by one senior citizen in the person of Chief Somana Kapen, in his efforts to advice the Party elders to galvanise all their efforts and do everything humanly possible to put their house in order. How can the presidential flagbearer talk about ‘convergent and divergent issues in the Tripartite Agreement’, which I don’t really understand?

Again, he is always giving his supporters the hope that, “The election is not over until it is over”. But the executive, with their suicidal mission of destruction are saying, “The elections are done and dusted”.

With this drama that surrounds the party hangs a deep rooted animosity of ‘MISGUIDED LOYALTY’ at its best.

Lord, Deliver Us From Deceptive And Dangerous Politicians: Amen!
