Mohamed Alim Kamara Escapes Police Brutality

Must read

On 10th, August, 2022, Mohamed Alim Kamara (Med K) ran away  from armed policemen who were going after him.

Like most Sierra Leoneans, Kamara and members of his ‘Ataya’ Base Organisation took part in the August 10 protest which was held for high cost of living, and increased in youth unemployment in Sierra Leone.

The police engaged protesters in running battles leaving 31 dead including six police officers. Angered by the number of casualties they incurred, the police and the army officers led by Deputy Internal Affairs Minister, Lahai Lawrence Leema embarked on reprisal killings on the evening of the same day during a house-to-house search.

The violent situation forced Kamara out of his home. He hid in a neighbour’s house after one of his friends, Abdul Bangura was allegedly shot dead by the police. His relatives too including his mother were tortured as one of her sisters was shot at leaving her with injuries.

Kamara left Sierra Leone for Guinea on the 12th August, 2022 after he and several others were declared wanted by the police dated 11th August 2022.

He left Sierra Leone before a curfew was proclaimed by government. It is reported that Kamara had left Guinea for a safe haven.

The warrant of arrest however remains in force although nobody knows his where abouts at the moment.
