Following the heightened and vicious political tension in the 2018 electioneering process of 2018, the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples’ Party (SLPP) members and supporters were said to have been brutalized during the campaign period by supporters of the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) party throughout the country, especially in the Southeast, the stronghold of the oppostion SLPP.
According to political observers and commentators, aggrieved youths and thugs of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party mobilized themselves and stormed some parts of the Western Area Urban just after the final presidential results of the 2018 election were announced on 4th April 2018 to eliminate perceived APC members and supporters who were key in formenting violence against their members during the campaign period.
Even though there was a constant call for peaceful, free, fair, transparent, credible, political tolerance , free speech, freedom of association and assembly by moral guarantors including religious leaders and the international community including the United Nations, the African Union and ECOWAS, the. residences of Mohamed Marouf Kamara and other prominent youths of the then ruling APC in the Western Area Urban were raided, brutalized and looted, which led to loss of lives and properties worth millions of Leones.
The hoodlums intensified the brutality with the aid of loyal state security personnel of the APC for several days with no one coming to the aid defenceless citizens who were subjected to violence and were at the mercy of the attackers.
Eyewitnesses intimated this press that the residence of Mohamed Marouf Kamara, being one of the ruthless APC youth members that was creating unrest and unbearable suffering for the SLPP supporters and members in that part of the country, was vandalized, young girls and women in the said premises abducted and ganged rapped and one Pa Osman Kamara, who was known to be the father of Mohamed was gruesomely killed in the event with the family having nowhere to seek redress.
The house of Mohamed Marouf Kamara was like a hunted house as all the occupants were advised to vacate in their own interest which they did without delay leaving all their valuables behind.
Mohamed Marouf Kamara and his family members are on the run and their current whereabouts are unknown.
The Sierra Leone Police are still investigating his activities while Mr Mohamed Marouf Kamara and his family are on the run
