Mother Remanded For Burning Daughter’s Hand

Magistrate Abdul Sheriff of the Freetown Magistrate Court No. 7 has remanded one Margaret Kabia at the Female Correctional Centre for allegedly causing unnecessary suffering to her daughter when she burnt her hand.

The accused was arraigned before the court on one count of child cruelty, contrary to section 4(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Children`s Act of cap 31 of the laws of Sierra Leone.

The particulars of the offence state that Margaret Kabia on Tuesday 7th August 2018, at No. 31 Looking town Kissy Road in Freetown, assaulted one Samulla Memunatu Dumbuya in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering.

However, the accused pleaded guilty of the offence and pleaded with the magistrate to have mercy on her, but MagistrateAbdul Sheriff remanded her at the Female Correctional Centre and the matter was adjourned to 1stOctober , 2018.
