The war of words and the campaign of calumny in the All Peoples Congress (APC) party that has grown fangs between its flagbearer aspirants are becoming distasteful, putrid and ultimately an unfortunate development to say the least. Apart from branding each other negatively as unfit for the APC flagbearer ticket, the campaign of calumny is unwittingly providing bases of negative propaganda against whosoever emerges as the party’s flagbearer in the wake of the forthcoming 2026 Delegates Conference.
In the midst of these baseless and unfounded muddling and acrid propaganda are certain fake individuals who are playing the role of informants for the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) as embedded informants in almost all of the APC flagbearer camps and it is these elements who are pushing for the disunity of the APC party through surreptitious deceitful means. One of these sheep in wolves clothing is a certain Mustapha Juana who goes around that he is well embedded within the Sam 28 Campaign Movement of Chief Alhaji Samuel Sam Sumana.
Chief Sam Sumana is renowned for his simplicity, quiet diplomatic and disciplined approach to politics of the APC and a well-respected member of the party. He has since 2007 when he came to the highlight of APC politics, made a remarkable footprint on the APC as Vice President. His financial and moral contributions to the party’s come back after its long being the wilderness as dictated by the Junta, National Provisional Ruling Council (NPRC) in 1992. Chief Sam Sumana therefore is no easy push-over in the APC despite the avalanche of controversies that currently surrounds his eligibility or ineligibility to contest for the flagbearer ticket of the APC party in the pending 2026 National Delegates Convention (NDC).
If this is actually to become an issue, it is not for the likes of a dwarfish buffoon like Mustapha Juana to determine with an open threat of Chief Sam Sumana doing everything in his power to disrupt the APC chance of winning the 2028 election if he, in the words of Mustapha Juana, “is disenfranchised” from the 2026 contest. Chief Sam Sumana is a honourable man who, if not for the likes of half-baked surrogates like Juana who have and are not adding any valuable political meaning to Chief Sumana’s campaign, he will not attempt a second bullet at the APC that is aimed at undermining it ability to breathe through the challenges of facing and defeating the incumbent SLPP in 2028.
Juana is moving around threatening people including Journalists whom he perceives as opponents or doubters of Chief Sam Sumana constitutional viability to contest for the APC flagbearer ticket in 2026, with arrests and incarceration boasting along these threats that: “Ar go make dem arrest you en go sleep na cell if na for two days sef for make u know say na we get dae current system even way u dae see me behen Chief Sam Sumana.” Literally, Juana was threatening a very senior Journalist that if he writes about their encounter, he will ensure his arrest and detention even if for two days, for the Journalist to know that he is part of the current system even as he is closely associated with the Chief Sam Sumana campaign.
Juana did not mince his words by stating publicly that the Sam 28 agenda aims at “bulldozing its candidate’s way into the APC flagbearer contest and that any attempt to invoke any legality from the 2022 Reviewed APC Constitution that could seek to disenfranchise Chief Sumana will result tough court actions which Chief Sumana has vowed to undertake against the APC,” Mustapha Juana revealed.
He claimed he is one of the advisers to the Sam 28 Campaign Movement and that he and his colleagues have made that definitive advisory to Chief Sam Sumana. Ooh Really? Is this Juana the type of people a seriously-minded politician, like Chief Samuel Sam Sumana is listening to?
For the fact that Juana boasts of boasting to a Journalist that they own the current political establishment, tells that Juana could be playing double role, double standards and a political news carrier from the APC Sam 28 Campaign to the ruling SLPP and vice-versa. He is parading the corridors of government offices across the boarding trading his information. When he was further challenged by the Journalist that his action as revealed clearly, is a sabotage to the Sam 28 and the APC ideals, he threatened: “Go write nor mor now; u go see waetin ar go do you.” These threats to the Journalist is not of no concern, but for the concern of someone, believed to be a trusted comrade is in the business of leaking what is supposed to be a highly classified information within the Sam 28 Campaign Movement and their intentions; that is the worry.
The advice to Chief Sam Sumana is that he should be weary of who and who he surrounds himself with in this his political journey. He should also be conscious of who he discusses his political plans with, for fear of people like Mustapha Juana who may be doing business with information he receives from his campaign teams and by extension, the APC party that he likely trades with the opposition. For Juana to be parading Freetown and threatening a whole political party with plans of litigation if they attempt to be fairly constitutional at the 2026 APC Delegates Convention is an affront to the quality of the Sam 28 campaign leadership. People allowed to advice a potential President of a country should be measured in terms of their intelligence, open-mindedness, transparent and exposure to the history and currency of the politics of the time to be able to give an informed advisory to the President. Juana, with all respect to his being as human, lacks these qualities as is testament of his open discussion of a decision that is supposed to be secretive, and that could be critical to the making and unmaking of Chief Samuel Sam Sumana in the APC now and forever.
