Nigerian in court for Unlawful possession

Onuoha Chineuye, a Nigerian from Edo State in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, made another appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No.1 on four counts charges to wit; possession, collection, transportation and dealing with prohibited drugs without lawful authority, contrary to Section 7(A,B,C) of the National Drugs Control Act 2008 No.10 of 2008.

The particulars of offense state that on Tuesday, 3rd September, 2024 at the Freetown International Airport at Lungi in the Port Loko Judicial District, in the Northern Province of the Republic of Sierra Leone, was found in possession, collection,  transportation and dealing of fifteen (15) pellets of Cocaine.

Lawyer Mansaray, who is representing the accused person, applied for bail, referencing Section 79(2) of the Criminal Procedures Act 1965. He submitted that the State Prosecutor did not present any opposing documents or affidavit to depict that they are opposed to bail.

He assured that the accused person has reliable Sureties that are willing and ready to go into recognizance for him.

Due to the unhealthy condition of the accused person, the Defense Counsel further applied that his medical status should be re-examined by the Correctional Medical Officer.

Having heard the aforementioned application by the Defense Counsel, Magistrate Kekura did not grant the bail application, but approved the second application for the accused person’s medical status to be re-examined.

Meanwhile, the matter was adjourned to the 12th November, 2024 due to the unhealthy condition of the accused person.
