As you may be aware, the recent malicious attacks and smear campaigns against Dr. Patricia Laverley’s hard-won reputation as a highly accomplished former Deputy Minister of Finance (2018-2022 *)* are part of the competitive political environment in the country.
Dr. Laverley served as one of the most professional, highly respected, and accomplished Ministers of Finance in Sierra Leone, especially in view of her work in quickly mobilizing over USD 500 Million in response to COVID-19, recovery of the IMF Program in 2018, establishment of the 2018 Economic Management Team, the Multi-Donor Trust Fund on Education, among several others. The recent malicious articles and smear campaign were the result of the adverse action regarding her primary Sugarland Beach front residence, which she had maintained and protected from extreme sand mining in Sierra Leone for *over 20 years* . The Ministry of Tourism revoked her license to maintain the beach and protect her private property from coastal erosion and end up in the sea.
Despite Dr. Laverley’s private investment at the beach over the years, she is yet to be compensated for this action taken by the Government of Sierra Leone. The beach intended to protect her primary residence has now been transformed to a public venue for events managed by the Ministry of Tourism without any compensation or a resettlement action plan from the Government of Sierra Leone.
As a well-respected global development banking professional for over 30 years working in different countries around the world, the shock created by this adverse policy measure taken by the Government she diligently served (without proper due process and dialogue) regarding her private property in Sierra Leone, was traumatic for her, resulting in an action that resulted in litigation and a subsequent need for medical attention as her health deteriorated as a consequence.
The general public needs to be reassured that despite this distraction, Dr. Laverley continued her official duties at the African Development Bank as the Country Manager in Tanzania.
Despite, the malicious attacks and smear campaigns, all the charges that included “inflicting bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to law” brought against her have all been discontinued and discharged from the Magistrate Court.
It is worth noting that Sierra Leone’s political environment is a mix of jealousy and unqualified hatred, especially against a person whose work ethics and professional standing appears to be at variance with the *current* status quo.
This toxicity mostly is *exercised* by individuals within the power corridors to cast aspersions through provocative actions as a way of surreptitiously engendering smear and malicious campaigns against the character and professional standing of that individual, a situation in which Dr. Laverley unsuspectingly got trapped in, resulting in the said litigation.

The general public is therefore assured that despite *this wave* of distraction, the litigation that was brought against Dr. Laverley has now been discontinued, and the matter has been discharged out of court.
In view of that, the Inspector General of Police of the Republic of Sierra Leone, who was the Complainant in the said litigation brought against the Dr. Laverley wrote a notice dated 21st February, 2025 to the presiding Magistrate instructing the State Counsel prosecuting the matter “to discontinue” the matter and also authorized the State Counsel “to enter on the record a statement that the proceedings are discontinued by my direction (the Inspector General) and thereon discharge the accused for the offences charged.”
The erudite Honorable former Deputy Minister of Finance of the Republic of Sierra Leone therefore stands *as clean as snow* and free of any form of litigation in the country, that may have come about as a result of the toxic and highly competitive political environment existent in the country.
