President of the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone (NOC-SLE) and Commonwealth Games Association(CGA-SL) Dr. Patrick Coker has on Friday, June 25 assured the newly elected executive of the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) of their continued support in their partnership and sports development as long as it is within the ambit of the NOC/CGA-SLE.
Dr. Coker congratulated the newly elected executive of the Sports journalists body that paid a courtesy call at his Howe Street office and applauded the membership for peaceful and exemplary conduct of their elections.
He said “We are pleased to see your elections went on smoothly. Let me also assure you of the NOC/CGA-SLE support as always and hope you sit with the Secretary General and see how we can work further. It has been difficult because of the Covid-19 situation in the world, we hope post-Olympic the situation will be good.”
Earlier, the NOC/CGA-SLE Secretary General, Joseph Nyande said, they will work with SWASAL to be able to regulate its membership on the area of human resource.
He said:” We’ve been working well and hope to continue further. Dr. Coker is always there to support positive development and we will surely work with your administration to achieve these beautiful plans.”
He pleaded with the Association to re-introduce and improve on what used to be the teaching of various sporting disciplines on a radio sports show.
The SWASAL President Sahr Morris (Jr) in his statement pledged the association’s total commitment to enhancing sports development in Sierra Leone and maintained that the new SWASAL administration wants to move a step further towards rebranding the Association in line with the new trend.
He also dilate on the partnership especially in the area of capacity building and opportunities for Sports Journalists in line with the NOC/CGA-SLE guide.
“Our administration is keen about improved capacity building, with the help of the Olympic and Commonwealth Games Federation Sierra Leone, we look forward to having Sports Journalism course in our colleges and universities, more training and opportunities to report on various sports both local and international because training goes exposure.” He said.
The SWASAL Secretary General, Francess Bernard-Bundor whiles introducing her executive, said they are pleased to present the new exective to the Olympic and Commonwealth Games Federation and are happy to work with them.
She hoped that both parties would continue to collaborate towards the development of sports in the country.
