NSA Assures Female Athletes

Must read

Dr Kenneth Brima, the Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has assured female athletes of making sure that all both male and female athletes are given equal chances and also receive the same allowances for representing the country in international competition.

Speaking to Night Watch Sports, at the Siaka Stevens Stadium during the celebration of the International Women’s Day, Dr Brima said the NSA, the Sports Ministry and the Women in Sports collaborated to join the world to celebrate women, especially the female athletes in Sierra Leone.

“The NSA is here to promote the female in sports; we are ready to develop the girls, promote them and make sure that we give them more opportunities just like the male athletes,” he said.

He added: “I want to assure the female athletes that we will make sure that we do for them what we did for the female footballers by giving them the same two thousand United States dollars each ($ 2000) we used to give to the male athletes when they represent Sierra Leone. One thing I want to tell the athletes, in the country, is that we will make sure that the female athletes receive the same allowance given to their men counterparts, because they are all equal to us,” the NSA Chief stated.

H e also said, “We want them to know that the NSA is here to develop and promote sports and the women in sports are no exception. We want the women to know that they have a role in sports equally as compared to the men. We are ready to give them more chances and we will make sure that they have equal opportunities just like the men. So we are kindly appealing to parents and guardians to allow the girl child to join the sporting fraternity of which we, at NSA, will make sure that we do not only promote and develop them but also we make sure that we secure them to become role models in society,” he stressed.
