During an awareness raising campaign on sexual violence, rape and other abuses against women and girls, the Executive Director, National Youth Coordination for Education and Development (NYCED), Unisa Jalloh, has expressed his determination to ensure responsible parenting.
He made this disclosure on Friday 8th February, 2019 during his campaign in Kroobay, Gray Bush and Dwarzark communities in Freetown.
The Executive Director called for action to be taken against parents who encourage their daughters to have sex with elderly people, blaming it on poverty.
Jalloh added that many parents are commercializing their girl child as a result of poverty, which, he noted, should be given some amount of consideration if the country is to end impunity on sexual related offenses.
The Human Rights Advocate called on government and donor partners to empower women and girls as they are the building blocks of every nation, stating that education should be every girl’s priority and not pregnancy.
He encouraged residents of communities to report cases of abuse against women and girls to the police. He said they should avoid this out of police and court settlement and allow perpetrators to face the music.
