Sierra Leone Premier League side Old Edwardians Football Club has officially retired the club’s iconic No.15 jersey in honour of their late young player, Abrahamson “Kaccu” Kamara, who passed away at the age of 17.
The emotional announcement was made by the club as a lasting tribute to the teenager whose talent, humility and dedication left a deep impression on teammates, supporters and the football community.
According to the club, Kaccu wore the No.15 jersey with “pride, passion and excellence,” qualities they described as reflecting the true values and spirit of Old Edwardians Football Club.
Though his journey with the club was short, management noted that his impact would remain unforgettable both on and off the pitch.
Chairman of the club, Richard Hindolo Senesie, declared that no player would ever wear the No.15 jersey again in honour of the late youngster.
“From today, no player will ever wear the #15 jersey for Old Edwardians FC again. It belongs to Kaccu, and Kaccu alone,” the chairman stated.
The retirement of the jersey is seen as one of the club’s highest honours and a symbol of respect for a player many believed had a bright future ahead of him.
The club further described Kaccu as a young footballer who had a fighting spirit; a discipline and a love for the game and who inspired many around him despite his tender age.
In a heartfelt farewell message, the club stated: “Once an Edwardian, Always an Edwardian. #15 Forever! Rest in Power Young King. Your legacy is safe with us.”
The tribute has continued to draw emotional reactions from supporters, former players and members of the football fraternity, many of whom have praised the club for immortalizing the memory of the promising youngster.
