On The Use Of Fake Cheques… NASSIT Cautions Business Community

The National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) has, in a public notice, cautioned the business community on the use of fraudulently acquired NASSIT cheque books from the Rokel Commercial Bank sometimes in August, 2013. The notice said the act was committed by certain unscrupulous individuals.

“All matters of procurement of goods and services on behalf of the Trust are carried out ONLY by the Procurement Department situated at the Head Office, 32 Walpole Street in Freetown,“ the Public Notice disclosed.

The public notice outlined a number of processes and procedures which, according to them, should be strictly adhered to in the acquisition of goods and services on behalf of the Trust.

This, according to the notice, includes strictly following the prescriptions of the National Public Procurement Act 2004 and its regulations of 2006, formal preparation and issuing of a formal order of contract duly approved by the relevant authority, delivery of goods and services ordered along with delivery notes and invoices to the stores Department situated at the Head Office, 32 Walpole Street, Freetown, among others.

The notice concludes by further urging members of the public to take note of the above procedures, while also   guarding themselves against suspicious individuals purporting to transact business on behalf of  NASSIT with the sole intention of defrauding members of the Public.
