On Water Pollution… Speaker Demands Investigation Report

By Ragan M. Conteh

The deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon Sengepoh Thomas, has urged the Committee, bestowed with the mandate to look into the alleged water pollution in Taia River, to investigate the report that will be submitted next week Thursday.

According to Speaker Thomas, it has taken a long time since the allegations of water pollution in the river and the suffering of the people having been making the rounds.

Responding to the Speaker’s admonition, the leader of the investigation, Hon Dr. Kalokoh of Bombali district, said that the Committee has done its investigation and, very soon, they will submit the report to Parliament.

In another development, the Speaker has also ordered the deputy leader of Government Business, Hon Basiru Silikie, to try and submit the investigation report on those that are currently constructing houses under bridges.

Responding, the deputy leader of Government Business said that they are rounding up the compilation of the report. “When we are done, we will submit it to Parliament,” Hon Silikie said.

It could be recalled that certain individuals, in the Western Urban and Rural Areas, have embarked on illegal construction of massive houses under bridges, which pose serious threats to those bridges. He said, if stringent measures are not put in place, there is the likelihood for those bridges to collapse before their stipulated duration.
