The Chief Executive Officer, Orange Sierra Leone, Madam Aminata Kane, has pledged his organization’s unflinching commitment to increase Sierra Leone’s low internet penetration which currently stands at 20%.
Madam Kane made this disclosure while hosting officials of the Government of Sierra Leone, representatives of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization, the National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM) and members of the private sector to a dinner at the Raddison Blu Hotel in Freetown.
The Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization and the Government of Sierra Leone through NATCOM and the Ministry of Information and Communications are hosting a three-day conference for stakeholders in the Communications sector in Freetown.
The Conference started on July 31st August, 2019 with the theme ‘’Broadband for inclusive digital transformation’’.
The Orange CEO disclosed that the conference which is being attended by over 80 participants from across the world including representatives from policy makers, government, regulators, Mobile Network Operators and the private sector, will create a great opportunity for all to share experiences on the subject which will form part of the discussions at the conference.
She noted that digitial transformation is one of the most important development axes today in the world.
‘’We want to build an integrated and inclusive digital economy that will improve the quality of life of our citizens,’’ she emphasized.
The digital economy, she recounted, is rapidly developing worldwide and that it is one of the most important drivers of innovation, competitiveness and growth.
Madam Kane also pointed out that the advancement and adoption of digital technologies and business models will enable the government and businesses to improve living standards.
She outlined the important strides already taken by her company towards the digital transformation of Sierra Leone including the launching of the Digital Revolution quite recently.
This, she continued, has been able to maintain more data for the same price, and that the launching of the real 4G broadband internet and other critical development in support of the President’s Flagship Education Project.
She observed that competition in the digital world is heating up and Orange Sierra Leone does not plan to slow down.
‘’We will continue to work hard to enhance telecommunications in Sierra Leone in line with government’s agenda for ICT with a very strong commitment to keep Sierra Leone at the forefront of communication in Africa and by extention the world,’’she added.
She furthered that there is need for continuous investment to improve end-end connectivity infrastructure for citizens as well as businesses to realize the potential of digital development and to keep up with the global digital transformation.
Madam Aminata Kane concluded her remarks by assuring all and sundry that Orange will continue to invest to ensure that rural connectivity is improved and to also extend telecommunication services to underserved and served areas.
Representatives from the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization, Government and the private sector also made statements at the event.
