Orange Sierra Leone’s Showcases CSR and HR Credentials

Sierra Leone’s leading GSM Company has once more showcased its rich credentials around the areas of Corporate Social Responsibility and Human Resource.

The company has pride itself in giving back to society under its Corporate Social Responsibility and Human Resource portfolios.

This has been showcased by the pouring of around Le 2 billion in various CSR projects in 2017 and 2018.

Its contribution to the Free Quality Education is huge and significant with the disbursing of over USD1.5 million in material support with the designing of five projects to be rolled out in the next five years.

The five projects are all geared towards supporting   government’s flagship project in capacity development for teachers, menstrual hygiene management for school girls’ development of the laboratory and innovative capacity of pupils in the country.

Orange Sierra Leone’s partnership with the Directorate of Science, Technology and Innovation by building Sierra Leone’s first coding school was a milestone in rolling the private sector’s unflinching support to actualize the President’s dream of using technology and innovation as an engine to trigger the much needed economic development.

 The move was in tandem with the company’s ambition of improving and supporting the innovation ecosystem in the country.

Orange Sierra Leone’s CSR credentials are wide and spread to include areas such as the recent refurbishment of the SLENA building in Freetown, supporting the Thinking Pink Breast Cancer Foundation Freetown Marathon, Support to the Big Sister Women’s empowerment show and support to the FCC Health and Environmental initiative etc.

Investment around CSR, company officials say stands at   about $ 400,000 dollars.

The company has also laid a solid foundation and example for other private sector players around the areas of Human Resources best practices.

It has invested about $16 million dollars in the last two years.

The focus over the years has been around capacity building by ensuring that employees benefit from soft skills, technical and leadership trainings.

Theirs is a very strong emphasis on nurturing talents from on boarding, retention, while also providing   exposure opportunities to other orange affiliates.

Orange Sierra Leone has also increasingly partnered with other key players in the private sector with the view to ensure that more and more Sierra Leoneans have easy access to financial access points and accessibility to other services.

The recent partnership with Guma Valley Water Company, Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA), EDSA in addition to many more are testimonies to the fact that Orange Sierra Leone has always aligned its development activities with the key aspirations of the people and Government of Sierra Leone.

Consequent upon the low internet and mobile penetration in the country compared to others in the sub region, the company has placed much more emphasis on expanding its services to hundreds of communities in Sierra Leone by investing around $96 million dollars in modernizing and expanding its network infrastructure.

This investment would witness the construction of about 94 new sites mainly in the rural areas.
