It was an amazing fanfare, pump and pageantry at St Edwards Secondary School in Freetown where Orange Sierra Leone (OSL) held its first sports competition on Saturday, 20th May, 2023. Four houses contested, but Bo House also known as White House emerged victorious. They clinched the most prestigious and coveted Gold Trophy leaving the other prizes for the other houses. OSL employees all over the country took part in the sports competition ranging from 100m to 800m.
The employees divided themselves into four houses using OSL’s four primary colours: White, Black, Yellow and Grey. Kono House (Black House) came second while Makeni House (Yellow ) and Kenema House (Grey) occupied the third and fourth positions respectively. The Saturday sports meet is the first to be organised since Orange came to Sierra Leone in 2016.
It was officiated by Sierra Leone Athletics Association in partnership with OSL. The occasion was colorful and full of fun. Speaking to this press ahead of the Saturday sports meet, OSL Women’s president, Martha Sumaila said “the sports competition was about all work and no play makes Martha a dull girl.” “This is an employee engagement; we need to get a time of rellaxation,” She stressed.
The OSL President went on to state that the winning team had a “bragging right” for a year. The right means the champions can boast of clinching the trophy and having the fastest athletes. Although the sports competition is the first, it will not be the last as many more are sure to come. “This is the first sports competition, but many more will come,” OSL president assured.
