A soldier in the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), Joseph Lamin Steven who is alleged to have shot and killed his senior colleague in the Force, Brima Kabba in a brawl over a USD 100 that was said to have been given them has on Wednesday, 28th January, 2026, been sent to the High Court for further trial following satisfactory investigative hearings at the Magistrate Court presided over by Principal Magistrate of the Freetown Magistrate Court No.1, Mustapha Braima Jah.

Steven is before the court on one count charge of murder contrary to Section 1 of the offense against the person’s Act 1861 as repealed and replaced by Section 1 (a) of the schedule of the abolition of the death penalty Act of 2021 Act No.6 of 2022.

The indictment states that Steven on Wednesday, 26th November, 2026 at the Presidential Lodge at the Freetown International Airport located at Lungi in the Port Loko Judicial District in the Northern Provinces of the Republic of Sierra Leone, murdered Moses Brima Kabba.

During proceedings, the Investing Officer, Inspector B. Foday in his testimony tendered both the cautioned statements and charged statements of the defendant which he had earlier made to the police.

The statements were both tendered before the court to form part of the Prosecution’s case, following which the Police Prosecutor, CSP Tommy Zizer closed the case of the Prosecution.

At this juncture Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah said he has looked at the evidence before him and he is satisfied that the Prosecution has proved their case beyond reasonable doubt, and therefore committed the matter to the High Court for trial.
