A businessman and his housewife have appeared before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 2 in Freetown on allegations of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The accused persons, Alie Suliaman Kamara, a businessman, and Yealie Kamara, a housewife, both residents of Smart Farm, Wilkinson Road, Freetown, are facing two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contrary to Section 47 of the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861.
According to the charge sheet, on January 28, 2026, at Boston Drive, Smart Farm, Wilkinson Road, Freetown, the accused persons allegedly assaulted Alpha Bangura, thereby causing him actual bodily harm.
During the proceedings, defence counsel I. Turay cross-examined the complainant, Alpha Bangura.
Bangura told the court that he knew the accused persons because they conducted business in the same area. He said he could not recall the exact date of the alleged incident but remembered that it occurred between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.
He further testified that he had accompanied a clerk from K and K Partners, who had gone to serve the accused persons with documents.
Bangura told the court that the complainants in the matter were Abubakarr and Margaret, with Margaret being his fiancée.
When defence counsel asked whether he had told the police that he had malice against the accused persons, Bangura said he had not. However, he admitted telling the police that his fiancée and the second accused had previously had a disagreement.
Bangura further testified that the alleged incident occurred in the absence of the clerk.
He alleged that the second accused splashed water on him, while the first accused slapped him, after which both accused persons allegedly engaged in a physical confrontation with him.
He also told the court that during the confrontation, the first accused allegedly made a statement in Krio, saying: “War pikin say e mama nor dae sleep, e sef nor dae sleep.”
Bangura said he decided to take legal action because he believed that both accused persons had assaulted him.
It was put to him by defence counsel that he had slapped one of the accused persons during the incident, but he denied the allegation and maintained that his evidence before the court was true.
The matter was subsequently adjourned to September 21, 2026, for the second prosecution witness to testify.
