Over Le 81 Million Fraud Case Goes To High Court

The Chief Executive Officer of Canaan Land Microfinance Company, Thomas Musa Turay whose office is located at 35 Charles Street, Freetown, was on Thursday, 15th August 2024 sent to High Court by Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Court No.2 Pademba Road, Freetown, for obtaining over Eighty One Million Old Leones from different people by falsely pretending that he his company has tricycles for sale knowing same to be false.

After the preliminary investigation (PI) of the matter at the Magistrate Court, Magistrate Bangura in his ruling said the Prosecution, ASP Musa Baba led two witnesses and also tendered exhibits in support of the case. He said that all the testimonies and exhibits tendered corroborated the allegation.

The learned Magistrate furthered that the Prosecutor has adduced sufficient evidences against the accused person which has warranted him to stand trial at the High Court.

The accused was however granted bail by the Magistrate.

It could be recalled that the accused, Thomas Musa Turay is charged with two counts charges ranging from conspiracy to defraud contrary to law and obtaining money by false pretenses contrary to Section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the charge sheet, accused Turay between 23rd January and 27th February 2024, in Freetown with intent to defraud, conspired with other persons unknown to commit a crime to wit obtaining money by false pretenses.

The charge sheet further stated that accused Turay, also obtained the sum of Eighty-One Million, Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Old Leones from Abass Kamara by falsely pretending that his company Canaan Land has TVS Tricycles (Kekeh) for sale which is known to be false.
