Over Le49 M… Sierra Rutile HRM Takes Desmond English To Court

Desmond English, an accused, is being arraigned before Magistrate Hannah Bonnie of Court No.1 on Pademba Road Freetown for chopping over forty nine million Leones from the Human Resource Manager of Sierra Rutile Ltd, Idrissa Kamara. Desmond English had lied to Idrissa Kamara of having a land for sale.

The accused, on Monday 10th August 2020, made his first appearance on two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony, which is contrary to law. He obtained money by false pretenses, which is also contrary to Section 32 of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the indictment, the accused, on diverse dates between October 2018 and March 2019 at No. 49B Byrne Lane, off Aberdeen Ferry Road in Freetown, conspired together with other persons unknown to commit a crime, to wit obtaining money by false pretenses.

The charge sheet also states that the accused, on the same day and place, obtained forty nine million one hundred and twenty five thousand Leones from the Human Resource Manager of Sierra Rutile Ltd by falsely pretending to own a land for sale, knowing same to be false.

The accused was granted fifty million Leones bail and two sureties in like sum. The sureties should produce valid national identification cards, and bail should be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.

The matter is being prosecuted by Inspector I.G. Fofanah, and the matter was adjourned to the 27th August 2020.
