During a cabinet retreat in Bo City, Kakua Chiefdom, President Bio admitted that his government and his team have not met expectations since he took over governance a year ago.
‘Our performance over the past year has not met expectations,’ he admitted.
He made the statement during a speech at the Ministerial or Cabinet Retreat which means he and his team need to tie their belts and renew their commitment among the country’s leadership.
‘We can really get together and have a shared understanding of what it is and what it means to be able to deliver. With this mindset, I want to register my sincere concern about the performance over the last one year. We have not been truly inspiring as we ought to be. We have to be at our optimum,’ he confessed.
Bio’s remarks come at a critical moment when the country is struggling with numerous challenges including socioeconomic challenges, unemployment, infrastructure, and healthcare issues among others.
Bio asserted that there is need for a united and proactive approach to governance and urged all ministers to double their efforts towards achieving tangible results for the people of Sierra Leone.
Top government officials and ministers were in attendance and several issues were discussed including strategies to boost economic growth and enhance public sector accountability.
President Bio stressed the importance of innovation and efficiency in tackling these challenges.
Speaking on the theme: “Deepening Coordination, Collaboration for Accelerated Service Delivery”, president Bio reminded members of his government that, ‘it is also an opportunity for us to speak hard truths to each other, to allow citizens to correct us’.
