Parliament At War

Must read

By Musa Paul Feika

In what appears a war within Sierra Leone’s parliament, Speaker Dr Abass Bundu and Clerk of Parlaiment, Umar Paran Tarawallie are at each other’s throat over illegal dismissal of over 100 workers in Parliament.

Sources say a good number of those asked to lay kits are friends and relatives to the Speaker of Parliament.

Investigation conducted by this press shows that the clerk sacked workers to replace them with his relatives, political friends and loved ones.

Honourable Tarawallie is administrative head of parliament and secretary to the Public Service Commission (PSC) of which the Speaker is the Chairman.

The PSC Chairman, Dr Bundu however said he was not aware of the lay off although he approved minutes of the commission’s deliberations.

Anonymous sources disclosed to Nightwatch Press that the clerk was stunned and shocked by the Speaker’s utterance.

The controversy between the two officials is spiraling out of control with the Speaker summoning the Clerk of parliament to explain the massive sacking. Remorse seems to have gripped the law making body over the sacking, but the outcome is yet unknown.
