The Speaker of the Sixth Parliament, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, has summoned the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Gilbert Zhao, of Leone Rock Metal Group to provide answers regarding allegations on social media and traditional media.

The Speaker made the summons on Tuesday, 16th June, 2024, during the approval and endorsement of nine presidential nominees.

Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas said the House has heard a lot about the said company concerning its impact. The meeting, according to the Speaker, will take place at the Speaker’s Conference Room, today, 17th July, 2024, in the House of Parliament.

Hon. Thomas assured that the Paramount Chief and the current Member of Parliament (MP) of the abovementioned district including the company’s CEO, Gilbert Zhao, will be present in the 2pm meeting.

Both social media and traditional media have been reporting about the company’s deficiencies such as allegedly flouting the country’s Labour Laws and treating Sierra Leoneans as slaves.

Not long ago, Sierra Leoneans working at the Leone Rock Mining Company, formerly known as Kingho Mining, accused the company of racial discrimination, enslavement and ill-treatment being meted against them at the company’s mining site in Tonkolili District.
