Abdul Karim Kamara

Credible information reaching this medium indicates that Mr. Abdul Karim Kamara commonly known as ABABAY, a renowned senior leader of the Sierra Leone Scouts Association (SLSA), a Government employee and a member of the main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) party is wanted by the Sierra Leone Police for crimes allegedly committed against the state.

According to Police Superintendent Bongay of the Kissy Police Division, Mr. Kamara is a person of interest to the police for his alleged involvement in the August 8th-10th 2022 violent protests in Freetown and other parts of the country to overthrow the legitimately elected government headed by President Bragadier retired Julius Maada Bio.

Competent police sources confirmed to this medium that Mr Abdul Karim Kamara was one of the ring leaders sharing hate and inciting messages of invisible persons in the diaspora who declared themselves as leaders of the protests in a WhatsApp forum he treated and operated as administrator, paying little or no attention to the recently enacted Cyber Crime Law.

Some members of the main opposition APC party, disgruntled and unemployed youths led by Mr Abdul Karim Kamara and co. organised themselves into a civil militia with the sole purpose of causing mayhem and overthrow the democratically elected government.

According to reliable intelligence, Mr Abdul Karim Kamara and his henchman formed a  group called Peoples Power in Politics (PPP) to destabilise the state.

According to the protesters,  they claimed that their agitation was peaceful and that they had no weapons in their possession.  They further disclosed that they were protesting peacefully with no iota of confrontation against the rising cost of living, bad governance, injustice, political intimidation, tribalism, regionalism, rampant sacking of perceived members of the opposition in the civil service, fuel shortage and economic mismanagement of the country’s resources, to name but a few.

It was further revealed that Mr Abdul Karim Kamara was also among the disgruntled youths along the Potee/Wellington axis in the Eastern part of the capital city of Freetown who were heading towards Texaco Junction with various plague cards in their hands.

Some of the plague cards reads: “Maada Bio must Go. The hardship is killing, the political intimidation is unbearable, Maada Bio has basterdized democracy.”

A team of police officers who had barricaded the main road in the Eastern of the city where the protest was seem to be more deadly, stopped the protesters from advancing further, instructing them to return home by dispersing them with the firing of teargas canisters and live bullets.

This resulted to the angry protesters retaliating by pelting the police with stones and other missiles, attacking and setting abaze police stations and vehicles as well as looting of shops and warehouses estimated at millions of Leones by hoodlums who took advantage of the situation.

Police sources confirmed that six (6) personnel and 25 civilians were killed during the skirmishes while several others sustained severe injuries.

The violent protests took place in Freetown Urban and Rural,  Lungi, Port Loko, Kamakwie, Makeni and Lunsar among others.

The police arrested some of the hoodlums and legitimate protesters nationwide and they were also subjected to mob justice by supporters of the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP).

During the deadly event.

Government immediately declared a curfew to quell the unrest that had threatened the state.

This led to many communities and suspects to be put under seige as the police and ruling SLPP led government supporters started hounding members of the main opposition APC party with Mr Abdul Karim Kamara been one of their prime suspects.

This has resulted to Mr Abdul Karim Kamara and his close family members going into hiding to save their lives as their whereabouts are currently unknown.

The younger brother of Mr Abdul Karim Kamara,  Mohamed Kamara, who is also on the run was unfortunately shot on the leg by police personnels but his comrades succeeded to rescue him.

The police and especially the SLPP supporters are now frantically looking out for APC party supporters in the Potti/Grassfield area which led to the arrest of madam Kadiatu Kamara, the aunty of Mr Abdul Karim Kamara. Madam Kadiatu Kamara, alleged to be instrumental in the bloody protests, is helping the police with their investigations.
