Police Officer Testifies in Assault Trial

Detective Sergeant 10840,Abu-Bakar Bangura attached to the Criminal Investigation Department Calaba Town Police Station has testified in the on-going matter involving two accused persons charged with the offences of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm and other related offences.
The matter is presided over by Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma.
The witness continued that on that day, he was on duty at the Calaba Town Police Station at around 10: 3 am when the complainant Adama Koroma, reported a matter of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm.
The matter according was allocated to him for further investigation, he noted.
The witness added that he later issued a police medical request form to the complainant and also obtained statements from her and her witnesses.
On the 19th November 2019, the witness continued that he had obtained voluntary caution statements from the accused persons.
The witness rounded his testimony stating that on the 22nd November 2019, he charged the accused persons with the offences of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm, Public Insult and Provocation, all contrary to law.
The police charge sheet indicates that, Andrew Smith and Mabinty Sesay on the 14th November 2019 at Calaba Town in the Freetown Judicial District, in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone, assaulted Adama Koroma in a manner thereby causing her grievous bodily harm.
The accused persons are still on bail and the matter was adjourned to 19th February 2020.
