Police Officer Testifies In Burglary & Larceny Matter

Police Constable 1316 Hassan Suma, attached to the Kissy Police Station in Freetown, has testified in the ongoing matter involving one Tejan Will, who was charged with the offences of burglary and larceny, which are contrary to the Larceny Act of 1816.

Testifying before the court, Mr. Suma said that he recognized the accused and could recall Sunday 7th May 2020.

According to him, on that fateful night, he was coming from work at around 2am, when he saw the accused, Tejan Will and three others, standing on top of the shoulders of one another to get the height of the window of the accused.

The witness further testified that, when the accused took notice of him, they started pelting stones at him. He said this prompted him to shout for help and, according to him, one of his neighbours came outside and helped to run after the accused.

But the witness said they were unable to catch up with the accused, adding that he could only identify the accused.

The witness furthered that himself and one of his neighbours went to the accused`s residence but he was nowhere to be found.

According to Mr. Suma, on their way back home, they saw the accused and apprehended him. He said they took him to the Kissy Police Division where the accused made a confessional statement, detailing that he was one of thieves that particular night.

He said he made a statement regarding the matter.

The police charge sheet states that Tejan Will, on Sunday 7th May 2020, at Gbaray Junction Kissy, in Freetown, broke and entered into the dwelling house of the complainant and stole therein certain valuable properties worth six million one hundred and seventy thousand leones (Le 6,170,000), which are the properties of the complainant, Prince Brima Forray.

The accused was denied bail and remanded at the Male Correctional Center, Pademba Road in Freetown.

The matter was adjourned to 15th July 2020.
