Detective Sergeant 5816, Abu-Bakar Turay, attached to the Calaba Town Police Station in Freetown, has testified in an ongoing matter involving one Francis Bangura, who is charged with the offence of house breaking and larceny, which is contrary to law.
The witness continued that he recognized the accused as well as the complainant, Fatmata Sesay, and he recalled Sunday 8th March this year. According to him, he was on duty at the Calabatown Police Station when the accused was arrested and brought into the police station with two Techno mobile phones, one I-pad, and a Toshiba lap-top computer in respect of house breaking and larceny.
The witness furthered that the matter was assigned to him for further investigation and that he obtained statements from the complainant and her witnesses, and that he visited the scene of crime at No. 143 Old Diversion Road, Ojoku in Calaba Town.
The witness further testified that himself and Detective Sergeant Kargbo A. obtained a voluntary caution statement from the accused, noting that, at the end of the statement, he admitted it to be true and correct by affixing his right hand thumb print and witnessed by D. Sergeant Kargbo.
The witness concluded his evidence by stating that, on Wednesday 11th March 2020, he charged the accused with the offence of house breaking and larceny.
The police charge sheet indicates that Francis Bangura, on Sunday 8th March 2020 at No. 143 Old Diversion Road at Calaba Town in the Freetown Judicial District in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone, broke and entered into the dwelling house of the complainant, Fatmata Sesay, and did steal therein certain valuable properties worth millions of leones.
The accused was unrepresented and, as a result, he was remanded and the matter was adjourned to 26th April, 2020.
