Police Testifies In Robbery Trial

Detective Sergeant 1167 Bindi, who is attached to the Anti-Robbery Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the Ross Road Police Division, has testified in the matter involving Foday Kamara and others charged with the offences of robbery with aggravation, robbery with violence, assault occasion actual bodily harm and other related offences, which are all contrary to law.

The accused are standing trial at the Ross Road Court No.1 with Magistrate Alhaji Sulaiman Koroma presiding.

The witness told the court that he recognized the accused and the complainant Fudia Sesay as well. He recalled 13th May 2020, when he was on duty at the Anti-Robbery Unit of CID at the Ross Road Police Division, where a case of an enquiring file from Grafton Police Post was transferred to the Ross Road Police Division for further investigation.

The witness told the court that the matter was assigned to him and that the case file contained scissors, trousers and other valuable items. According to the witness, he handed the items over to the Exhibit Clerk at the Division.

Mr. Bindi also told the court that himself and Detective Sergeant 10089 obtained voluntary caution statements from the accused, which was witnessed by Detective Sergeant 10089 Conteh S.

The witness  told the court that on 16th May 2020, he charged the accused with the offences of robbery with aggravation, assault occasion actual bodily harm and other related offences, which are all contrary to law.

The police charge sheet indicated that Foday Kamara and two others on 13th May, 2020 at Kissy Road in Freetown robbed Inspector Fudia Sesay certain valuable items worth millions of Leones, and at the same address assaulted the complainant in a manner thereby causing her grievous bodily harm.

The accused were refused bail and they were remanded, while the matter was adjourned to 12th June, 2020.
