President Bio has directed the initiation of a Cross Party Committee to address the widespread and systematic violence and intimidation that has plunged the country immediately after the announcement of the presidential and parliamentary elections of the 31st March, 2018.
He took the move following a meeting with a delegation from the All People’s Congress (APC) Party headed by the former flag bearer of the party, Dr. Samura Kamara. The delegation had earlier on paid a courtesy call on the President to intimate him on the high spate of attacks on their supporters across the country and to further discuss the way out in terms of providing the much needed security for all concerned.
The Cross Party Committee, according to a release from the Office of the President, will comprise the leadership of both parties. President Bio has also instructed the Cross Party Committee to work in concert with the Sierra Leone Police with a view to investigate all complaints of violence and intimidation across the country and to further ensure that the law is applied with full force against anyone found culpable.
The release ended by dismissing what they refered to as frivolous allegations making the rounds on social media that certain former officials of the APC Government officials are under arrest. The release warns all persons to strictly conduct themselves in conformity with the maintenance of good governance and law and order in the country.
