Your Excellency we have felt compelled to make our well–considered observations on your nine-month rule albeit imperfectly as all humans. You achieved the pinnacle of state power through bravery and perseverance that overcomes everything. Your march on Freetown to face a well-armed national army was like laying down your life for your country for which you have been rewarded judging from the mysterious way you achieved power after conquering overwhelming odds. It can be safely concluded that unlike some other leaders your power is from God. Other leaders have ruled this country creating doubts as to whether their powers were from God.
The people on the whole voted for change and delivery from the hardships of the outgone regime and not necessarily for Free Quality Education, though it is your flagship program. The fact is that when all is said and done most people would prefer to be well fed rather than well educated .This is not to disparage education but it is a question of the order of priorities. Hardship still persists without let up. And if it continues this way it has a tendency of dumping your government’s popularity. Next to Free and Quality Education bread and butter issues should be reassessed in your government’s scale of priorities.
Incidentally some intellectuals have been narrow-minded enough to tag the nightwatch as belonging to their rival parties only because their shortcomings are exposed. How can the nightwatch be SLPP or APC if it publishes such contradictory articles as ‘An APC Victory in 2023 is a Figment of the Imagination’ and ‘SLPP’s Sacred Cows,’ to name only two. If we were supported by any of these parties we wouldn’t have been daft enough to bite the hands that feed us. This is a testimony that remains unyielding.
Your Excellency one of the main reasons for your election was for the enforcement of discipline which has been lacking over the decades. They recollect military discipline during the NPRC regime and lament for those days to come back. They wanted a martinet. The people however have not experienced much difference with the past. The edict against the misuse of government vehicles seems to have been mere lip service. Lateness has returned to the status quo ante. Whether through occultic power or ineptitude the culprits of hajj gate seem to be getting out of the noose.
Like what happened during the APC regime publicity is now a team work with sinecures falling over one another and not providing tangible information while citizens have a hazy notion of most things happening in the state. Their job descriptions are top secret save for the fact that they appear on state radio televisions leaving the audience sometimes more confused than they were before listening.
The numbers in the President’s delegations which were said to be reduced to mere essential personnel still seem to be bloated including the alleged inclusion of the wife of the Minister of Finance in the United Nations delegation and yet the teams of strategic information have not been able to provide an explanation. Are you people continuing to flout your regulations this way without any penalties?
Rape and murder are two of the most heinous crimes against humanity. You have already taken a firm stand of life jail against rapists but you have stayed mum over murder. This is interpreted by the public as your stance is in tandem with Amnesty International but against the Bible’s teaching that whoever sheds man’s blood by man shall his blood be shed. You should remember that the mood of the country is for the use of the gallows that had been cleansed by Paolo Conteh but not used because the former President would not sign the edict in our statute books. The example of late Dr. Siaka Stevens does not seem to have resonated with you though it resulted in the absence of murders for a number of years.
It is your laxity over security matters that are going to prove your undoing. The things you leave undone will one day undo you. Leaving former security officials some of whom are barely literate in sensitive positions is not the best of policies. They should be weeded out without delay.
You don’t have to adopt policies of the APC lock, stock and barrel.Convince us that a New Direction exists. You seem to be sleeping in your wings. You should have the hide of a hippo to be able to endure odium which will not cease as long as you are in office. The Bible states ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’ but you seem to be loving your neighbor more than yourself. The bottom line is that if you enforce discipline all will be well, all manner of things.
We wish you and your family a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
