Hon. Usman Timbo of Constituency, in the western urban, has said, in the Well of Parliament, that after perusing the presidential address in Parliament, he did not see much new or innovative things across all the sectors mentioned by the President. He dubbed the speech as the ‘Agenda for Continuity’.
The APC Member of Parliament noted that the past government, which he proudly belongs to, has set the pace and foundation for whatever subsequent development programs their successors would want to undertake.
Another opposition MP, Hon. Rose Marie Bangura, noted that her colleagues from the Sierra Leone People’s Party have not been doing justice by criticizing the former president in all sectors of development. She noted that government is continuity and that the former President has, amongst other things, empowered women and drastically improved energy generation and transmission in the country.
Hon Saa Francis Bendu of Constituency 027 stated that laws have been passed in the country which give preference to people with disability and pleaded with the government to enforce these accordingly. The MP cited that people with disability are challenged with getting jobs and called on the Ministry of Labour to give priority to them despite their different political affiliations.
Hon. Ishmael Sama Sandi of Constituency 080 in Bo district noted that the election of President Bio is a divine intervention.
The debate is expected to end on Friday with more Members of Parliament expected to make meaningful contributions to the President’s speech.
