PRESS RELEASE: Sierra Leone Labour Market Assessment Launch

5th November, 2019.

BRAC in partnership with FHI 360 pioneered the production of the Sierra Leone Labour Market Assessments (SLMAs), with funding from the NoVo Foundation. The SLMAs Report will be launched on the 6th November 2019, at the Bintumani Conference Hall Freetown.

The strategic aim of the initiative is to equip adolescent girls with the knowledge and skills they need to reach their full potentials, the reports provide unique and actionable insight into the challenges young people encounter in securing productive jobs in Sierra Leone.

The event will feature a variety of presenters, including youth speakers from BRAC’s Empowerment and Livelihoods for Adolescents (ELA) program, who will discuss and provide insights on their employment journeys, as well as interactive discussions on the report outcomes. The strategic aim of this venture is to inform livelihood programming for young people in Sierra Leone; specifically, young women and girls.

The report intends to benefit development practitioners concerned with empowering youth to access better and more stable employment.

Considering the existing discrepancy between the skills that young people possess and the needs of formal employers, the labour market assessments will further provide a country-specific roadmap to help realign employers and job seekers in Sierra Leone.

The report is a new and unique tool to empower organizations committed towards finding solutions to the youth employment challenge. Hence, the report will provide development practitioners committed to empowering adolescent girls, with valuable and unique data that can be used to inform and develop effective and inclusive programs.

Functionally, the report:
