Prince of Wales Secondary School football team has defeated Ahmadiya Football Team 3-2 in the Western Urban District Inter-Secondary School Competition at the Kingtom Police Field.
The colourful final was graced by the Honourable Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), Dr David Moinina Sengeh, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh, the Minister of Sports, former Leone Stars Manager, Christian Dauda, the Managing Director of Rokel Commercial Bank, Dr Walton Gilpin and a host of other personalities.
Ahamadiya took an early lead in the first half of play by 2 goals to 1. The Prince Waleans fought hard in the second half of play to overturn the result 3-2.
The lads dedicated their winning to all Prince Waleans at home and abroad, thanking all those that supported them in their quest to end the 31 year wait to win the inter-secondary school league trophy.
Emmanuel Combay was presented both the best player and goal king awards, while St Helena Secondary was awarded as best behaved school.
The tournament’s giant trophy medals were presented to the champion, Prince of Wales. Medals and trophies were also presented to other winners of the day.
Addressing the team and pupils George Abiodun Lefevre heaped praises on the lads for their brave fight to win the trophy.
‘You’ve made history for the school, yourself and words are not enough to thank you all. You fought hard and you demonstrated a winning mentality coming back from behind to win this prestigious trophy after 31 years,’ he said.
For his part, former Team Manager of Leone Stars, Christian Dauda thanked the boys for winning the trophy. ‘This school will continue to celebrate you guys as our heroes. You’re indeed heroes and what you’ve demonstrated will never be forgotten,’ he stated.
The Chairman of Brookfields United Sports Club, Christian Dauda pledged the sum of fifty million leones (old notes) for the development of school sports, while former Leone Stars team doctor, Songor Koedoyoma pledged five million leones (old note) as way of celebrating the lads.
