Abdul Mohamed Marrah, first accused, who also doubles as the proprietor of Abdul Mary Health Clinic, located at Ibrahim Drive off Liverpool Street in Waterloo, has told the court that he is not a trained and qualified doctor but only the proprietor of the facility.
Abdul Mohamed Marrah made this confessional statement during yesterday`s court proceeding in the on-going manslaughter matter at the Ross Road Magistrate Court No. 1, which is presided over by Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma.
He told the court that he had performed the first hernia operation on the deceased, Baimba Samura, and this was, according to him, successful to the point that the deceased was even able to communicate with his relatives.
The accused added that, the second accused, Jimmy Martin Bangura, is his employee and that he had conducted twenty successful surgical operations at the facility in his presence.
Police prosecution witness, Detective Sergeant 5600 Tamba Marrah, told the court that he recognized the accused, and could also recall 5th December 2019. He said he was on duty at the Ross Road Police Station in Freetown when a case of an enquiry file from Kissy Police Station was brought to the station in respect of manslaughter.
He added that the matter was allocated to him for further investigation, and that, on the same day, he obtained voluntary caution statements from the accused, which was witnessed by Detective Sergeant 12186 Collins A.
The Police witness concluded his evidence by indicating that, on the 31st January 2020, he charged the accused with the offence of manslaughter.
The police charge sheet indicates that, Abdul Mohamed Marrah and Jimmy Martin Bangura, on the 23rd December 2019, at Ibrahim Drive off Liverpool Street in the Freetown Judicial District in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone, unlawfully slaughtered the deceased, Baimba Samura.
The accused was refused bail and remanded while the matter was adjourned to 19th March 2020.
