China To Construct Waterloo Market

By Donstance Koroma

Kasho Holland Roland Cole, Chairman, Western Area Rural District, in an interview with this medium, disclosed that the Government of the People’s Republic of China has consented to construct the Waterloo central market.

The WARD-C Chairman noted that he is working on the allocation of the land for the commencement of the project. The Chairman made this revelation yesterday during an exclusive interview with nightwatch press at his office in Waterloo.

He pointed out that he went to China upon the invitation of the Chinese Center for International Knowledge on Development (CIKD).

The WARD-C Chair disclosed that, whiles in China, he attended a three weeks intensive training on development experience and cases for Rural Districts from 4th July – 24th July, 2018. The training was organized by the Commerce Republic of China.

Mr. Holland Cole said that, during his visit, he was able to establish bilateral relationship between the Chinese Government and the Rural District in the area of knowledge and skills transfer exchange and the provision of educational package in the form of scholarships for residents of WARD-C.

Kasho Holland Cole mentioned that he is still committed to his campaign, disclosing that the council has provided a forty (40) seater bus for the rural district. This, according to him, is part of the four mini buses he promised during his campaign.

On the area of sand mining, Chairman Cole stated that the council has engaged the Hamilton community in respect of the issue. He revealed that he had made it clear that sand mining should benefit the individual communities where the sand is extracted and by extension the council. This, according to him, will enable council to use revenues generated from such activities to implement development projects.

The Chairman furthered that the issue of the Waterloo lorry park is a serious challenge for Council. He said that discussions on a sustainable solution to the issue are ongoing between his Council and the other parties.

The lorry park management and WARDC, according to Mr. Cole, are gradually finalizing discussions around the management of the park.

The Council, he reiterated, owns the park as it was built on their land by NACSA and subsequently handed over to them. He noted that council will not accept any arrangement that undermines their authority as a council. Any such attempt to undermine Council, on this issue, will be challenged in a court of law.

He expressed concern over the alarming crime rate in the district, noting that criminals are hiding under the blanket of political parties, which, according to him, makes the work of the police difficult.

The WARD-C Chairman also dilated on the issue of revenue generation, where he disclosed that the council has created the revenue department and divided the council into four zones: Goodrich, York, Newton and Regent.

According to him, collection of revenue and taxes, within the district, will be easy. He further disclosed that his council has terminated the contract of Credit Recovery Agency that was in charged with property rate collection in the Rokel and Tombo communities and environs.

He concluded by noting that, the Rural District tax receipt book will be out on Monday 20th August, 2018 with proper security in place to prevent duplication.
