As the fight for the hot seat at Police Headquarters continues to gain momentum, against the backdrop that the days of current IGP Richard Moigbeh are waning, a very close and credible source within Government has revealed to the nightwatch that the current Assistant Inspector General of Police, North East Region, Ambrose Sovulla, has been earmarked for the top job.
The source has noted that AIG Sovulla remains the oldest Police officer now within the top cadre and has gone through the ranks of the Force and has a perfect pedigree to lead the Sierra Leone Police Force.
AIG Ambrose Sovulla, before the Police Change Management and restructuring process, served as a Police Corporal for over twenty years until when he was spotted by the then Police IGP, Keith Biddle.
He later left for studies at the Milton Margai College of Education and IAMTECH, where he both acquired a diploma in social work and a degree and masters qualifications.
Upon graduating, AIG Sovulla was made Commandant at the Police Training School at Hastings, Local Unit Commander, Ross Road Division and Head of Traffic for the Sierra Leone Police.
AIG Sovulla was quite recently promoted to Chief Superintendent of Police and Assistant Inspector General of Police, North West region and now North East Region.
One may argue that AIG Sovulla is not part of the British trained crop of senior police officers who graduated from Leicester and other British Universities in Leadership Command courses during the post war restructuring process, such as the likes of AIG Thomas Mustapha Lahaia and Elizabeth Turay, etc., but he definitely has what it takes to lead the Sierra Leone Police as he is a down to earth senior officer.
He has a perfect grip of what policing means and can relate well with the least and ordinary police officer after having gone through the ranks from corporal to Assistant Inspector General of Police.
He is au fait with crime as well as the operational rudiments of police; having served for the past forty years in various fields such as crime investigation, traffic, operations surveillance and administration, etc.
AIG Sovulla has proved to be a unifier, who can deliver results; he has within the shortest possible time been able to stabilize the North East Region (Makeni), which, for the past few months, proved to be very challenging in terms of maintaining public order being the stronghold of the opposition All People’s Congress.
