The ‘Say No To Drugs’ campaign team on Wednesday, 5th February 2025, presented 10 official match footballs and 10 captain armbands to the Executive Director of National Sports Authority (NSA), Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai Esq, at his 22 Signal Hill Road office.
It is the undisputed fact that before the declaration of the State Of Emergency against drugs especially the Kush menace and other harmful substances by the Government, Ivorian Sillas, Bobor Barrie and their hard-working team ‘The Say No To Drugs Campaign Team’ has been active in the fight against drugs and violence in different communities, using sports especially football to convey its message wherein they support mini leagues, division leagues and the country’s top flight league, with official match footballs, captain-bands, trophies, jerseys, banners and other equipment.
Presenting the balls and captain armbands on behalf of the ‘Say No To Drugs’ co-founders Abu Bakar Sillah aka Ivorian Sillas, who is based in the United Kingdom and Mamadu Bobor Barrie, the owner of Barrie Help Foundation, Atto ‘Opong’ Manneh said the donation is meant to promote a drug-free and violence-free future and also nurture a positive atmosphere within football competitions.
Receiving the donation, Dr. Saffa Abdulai thanked the ‘Say No To Drugs’ campaign team for it wonderful gesture, noting that Sierra Leone has a history of violence.
“This has led to the loss of many promising lives. The culture of violence is mostly seen in sports, parties, small gatherings, and national politics,” he said.
On January this year, the ‘Say No To Drugs’ campaign team presented 25 official match football, 40 captain’s armbands and banners to Sierra Leone Premier League Board, at the Football Academy field, Kingtom, after presenting 60 Captain’s armbands and 10 banners to the PLB last year.
Meanwhile, the ‘Say No To Drugs’ is embarking on taking the campaign to primary schools within the Freetown Municipality, with 15 primary schools set to benefit around 15 set jerseys and 45 official match footballs.
