Scene of Crime Officer Testifies In Arson Trial

Detective Sergeant 1041 Ibrahim Kamara attached to the Criminal Investigation Department, Kissy Police Station has yesterday testified in an on-going matter involving Aminata Bawoh charged with the offences of arson and attempted murder.
The accused Aminata Bawoh is standing trail at the Ross Road Magistrate Court No. 1 presided over by Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma.
The witness continued that he recognized the accused and could also recalled on the 1st March 2019, while on duty at the police station when he received a call from Detective Inspector Coker attached at the Hasting Police station.
The Police Inspector according to the witness had informed him about a case of arson.He continued that he immediately left for Hastings.
The Police witness continued his testimony that himself and Detective Inspector Coker had visited the scene of crime at Hastings and that upon their arrival at the scene they had discovered fire at two of the rooms and the palour of the house.
He also told the court that they had not seen electrical connections in the house which should have given them a clue that the fire was caused as a result of electrical connections.
The Police witness recounted that they took photographs of the scene, developed and printed them.
Just as the witness was about to tender the pictures in court to form part of the evidence the defense objected on the grounds that the state has failed to provide the digital camera which the Scene of Crime Officer had used to take the photographs at the scene.
Police Prosecutor Assistant Superintendent of police Osman Bangura sought for a date on the grounds that, they would make the digital camera available in court in the next adjourned date.
The accused was charged with the offences of arson and attempted murder.
The police charge sheet indicates that the accused on 1st March 2019 at Hastings in the Freetown judicial district in the Western Area in the Republic of Sierra Leone, attempted to murder a three months old child, daughter of the complainant Sallamatu Jalloh.
The accused is still on bail and the matter was adjourned to the 10th February, 2020.
