Sierra Leone participated virtually in the 2026 Tug of War International Federation (TWIF) Annual Congress held in Caorle, Italy, joining global discussions on the future of the sport amid rising travel costs and regulatory reforms.
The congress, hosted by Federazione Italiana Giochi e Sport Tradizionali and TWIF, focused on preparations for upcoming outdoor championships, including the 2026 World Outdoor Championships in Mossel Bay and the 2027 edition in Caorle.
Delegates from 18 countries discussed governance matters, implementation of the World Anti-Doping Agency’s 2027 code, weight regulations and bidding procedures for future events.
Officials also highlighted the growing financial challenges facing smaller federations due to increasing airfare and complex travel logistics.
Italian representatives Nicola Cappelletto and Chiara Berto were among officials actively involved in the discussions.
