The defence counsel, Madieu Sesay, representing the accused, Alie Fatorma a pupil of the Sierra Leone Muslim Congress Secondary School at Kissy in Freetown, has intimated Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma, of the Ross Road Magistrate Court No. 1, that his client was a candidate of this year`s West African Senior School Certificate (WASSCE), adding that Alie Fornah has not sat to any subject since the inception of the WAEC exam.
It is explicit that the accused, Alie Fatorma, has been deprived from benefiting from the Free and Quality Education (FQE), which is one of President Bio`s government flagship programmes.
Lawyer Sesay made this revelation when he was renewing his application for bail on behalf of his client. He further stated that his client was initially granted bail, but it was rescinded due to the attitude of his client. Notwithstanding, he pleaded with the Bench to restore the bail of the accused for him to take the remaining subjects. In response, the bail of the accused was restored by the presiding magistrate.
The accused is standing trial on one count of larceny from person, which is contrary to the Larceny Act of 1816.
The police charge sheet indicates that Alie Fatorma, on the day in question, stole certain valuable properties valued at two million five hundred thousand leones (Le2, 500,000), which are properties of the complainant, Mariama Kamara.
The matter comes up again on 7th September, 2020.
