SLCA Search For New Head Coach Continues

Must read

The committee tasked with finding the new head coach of the Sierra Leone national cricket teams has begun the interview process.

The shortlisted candidates for the role comprised three local coaches: Serry Turay, Gabriel Anthony and Mustapha Kallon, and two foreign coaches. Unfortunately, Kallon is no longer in contention for the role after removing himself from the shortlist due to personal reasons. For the two remaining local candidates, the interview process began on 10th May 2021 at the Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA) Secretariat in Kingtom, Freetown.

The interview process for the foreign candidates will be conducted on a date to be agreed upon by the committee, according to SLCA Chief Executive Officer, Francis Trevor Samura. The two foreign coaches shortlisted are British-born Robin Maslin and South African-born Kenneth Masinga.

In another development, the Sierra Leone Cricket Association has started an U13 cricket championship in honour of a former umpire and President of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association, Hon. Alfred Owen De’Souza George.

AOD George was a very good man whose legacy still holds strong within the cricket fraternity and beyond. His commitment and dedication to cricket played a huge part in keeping the game alive after the brutal 11-year civil war.

The six teams competing in the U13 championship are drawn from different communities and have been divided into two groups of three each, with the winner of each group proceeding directly to the final. The community teams include: Bandset, Big Barracks, Special Line, Guard Room, Board House and Gun Boat.

Matches are to be played at the Kingtom Cricket Oval and the Prince of Wales School Ground, both in Kingtom. Attendance is open to all.
