Ing. Mohamed Benson Bawoh, the Acting General Secretary of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), has lamented on the transformation of the Coronation field in Bo Town and Women’s football in the Country.

The SLFA’s Scribe who witnessed the Southern Derby—between the undefeated Mogbwemo Queens, back-to-back champions of the Women’s Premier League, and the ambitious Ram Kamara FC, was full of praises for the visionary leadership of Thomas Daddy Brima and his Executive Committee, for not only transforming the Coronation field in Bo Town, but also the rapid growth of Women’s football in Sierra Leone.

“It was a moment of profound joy and fulfillment to return to the pitch of my boyhood memories, a space once covered in dust and surrounded by improvised “monkey ticket” entries, to witness history unfold. What was once a field of unpolished dreams has now been transformed into a modern footballing spectacle, with artificial turf, a pavilion, perimeter fencing, and floodlights, all thanks to the visionary leadership of Thomas Daddy Brima and his Executive Committee,” he stated.

“Standing there, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride, not only for the infrastructure but for the strides our football has made. The pitch, now a beacon of excellence in Bo, hosted a monumental clash—the Southern Derby—between the undefeated Mogbwemo Queens, back-to-back champions of the Women’s Premier League, and the ambitious Ram Kamara FC. The Acting SLFA’s CEO continued, “This match was more than just a game; it was a celebration of progress, passion, and the power of football to inspire. Mogbwemo Queens’ record-breaking unbeaten streak of 46 matches was finally ended by a resilient Ram Kamara FC, who won 1-0 courtesy of a brilliant goal by Salamatu Kamara. It was a fitting conclusion to a thrilling contest filled with class, elegance, and pure entertainment.

He noted that the Southern Derby was a reminder of how far they’ve come and how much potential lies ahead. It reignited hope and confidence in the future of football in our nation, showing that their investment in infrastructure, talent development, and opportunities is yielding dividends, while thanking fans CEO’s, managers and owners of Women’s Football Clubs and all those contributing towards the rapid development of Women’s football including the press.

“For me, witnessing this moment was not just a professional milestone but a deeply personal triumph—a testament to the dreams that began on that dusty pitch all those years ago.”

“Women’s football has come live. Thank you to the fans for turning up in your numbers to witness the spectacle.  Thank you to the CEO’s, managers and owners of Women’s Football Clubs for supporting Women’s Football. We couldn’t have done this without you. Thank you to the league board for such a brilliant start. Best wishes for the rest of the league season,” Ing. Mohamed Benson Bawoh concludes.
